Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a noninvasive diagnostic procedure performed in the Radiology Department at Chester River Hospital Center. This test uses high frequency sound waves to view internal organs and produce images of the body.

An ultrasound may be used to examine internal organs, determine if a person is a good candidate for angioplasty, and to aid in obstetric-related diagnoses.

Echocardiography
Chester River Hospital Center also performs a specialized ultrasound imaging procedure known as echocardiography which looks at the action and function of the heart. This type of ultrasound can spot structural and functional abnormalities of the heart wall, valves and large blood vessels.

Other uses of echocardiography include:

Detection of congenital heart disease
Detection of a blood clot in one of the chambers of the heart
Aneurysms
Pericarditis or inflammation of the heart sac
