Patients` Bill of Rights

We are here to help you get the best possible health care. Because you may have to make decisions about your treatment, it is important for you to be aware of your rights as a patient. You have the right to:

Respectful care � You will be treated with dignity and courtesy.

Complete information � You will receive complete, current information about your diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. When it is not medically advisable to give the patient such information, it will be made available to an appropriate person in his/her behalf.

Informed consent � You will be given complete information about any procedure or treatment recommended by your physician so that you can give your permission. If you are legally competent, you have the right to refuse treatment.

Privacy � Personal or medical details of your condition and treatment will not be needlessly disclosed to others.

Confidentiality � You must give permission for the release of your medical records for specific purposes.

Acceptance for treatment � You can expect reasonable treatment or service within the hospital`s capacity, its mission and any applicable laws or regulations. This will include management and treatment of your pain.

Information about affiliation � You have the right to know about any connections your hospital or physicians have with other institutions and physicians.

Refuse experimental treatment � You may refuse to participate in any research or proposed treatment that is experimental.

Knowledge of hospital regulations � You should be told about the rules that govern conduct in the hospital.

Information about continuing care � You must be told about treatment that may be needed after discharge from the hospital. You should also be told when and where a physician will be available before scheduling any treatment.

Information about your bill � You have a right to receive a copy of your bill and to know the charges for each service you receive; which charges are billed separately; and what you insurance company has been charged and has paid.
