Diabetes Program

Chester River Health System offers a comprehensive program to help individuals with diabetes better manage their disease. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

The program begins with a doctor's referral. Patients are scheduled for an individual counseling session with the dietitian and the nurse educator. The program continues with 8 hours of class instruction. Classes are interactive, 2 hour, small group sessions which allow for discussion and questions. Since a diagnosis of diabetes involves life style changes, the diabetic is encouraged to bring their support person to the classes.

The schedule for 2011 classes:

  • September 19, 26, October 3 & 10, 2011 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • September 24 & October 1, 2011 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • October 31, November 7, 14 & 21, 2011 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • November 5 & 12, 2011 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Diabetes Support Group

Continuing education and support are key in managing diabetes. Chester River Hospital Center offers a Diabetes Support Group to provide individuals and their families with up to date information and a network of support people.

The group meets the last Tuesday of each month (except August and December) at 6:30 pm in the Conference Center on the second floor of the Hospital.
