Hospital Welcomes New OB/GYN

John J. LaFerla, M.D., M. P. H., has joined the practice of Maria Boria, M.D., M.P.H. and the medical staff of Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital. Dr. Boria is expanding her practice to include obstetrics in addition to gynecology. The practice is located in the Medical Services Building at the hospital.

Dr. LaFerla, a board-certified OB/GYN, is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College. He earned a master’s degree in public health at the University of Michigan and completed both his OB/GYN residency and a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

He comes to Chestertown after having completed ten years with Health Partners, an HMO in Bloomington, Minnesota. He has served on the faculties of the University of Rochester, University of Michigan Medical School, Wayne State University School of Medicine, the St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center and University of Minnesota Medical School.

“Dr. LaFerla has a tremendous amount of experience, both good clinical experienced and good teaching experience from which everyone-patients, the hospital and colleagues-can benefit,” Dr. Boria comments.

“I am very pleased the OB unit offers labor/delivery/recovery/post partum (LPRP) rooms and I am impressed with the very personal care the staff gives to mothers-to-be and new mothers,” Dr. LaFerla notes.

Originally from the east coast, Dr. LaFerla is interested in returning to this area and in pursuing an interest in sailing. He is pleased to be joining an expanding practice in a small town located close to metropolitan areas.

He is the father of four children.
