Borneman Completes
New York City Marathon

Congratulations to Cheyrle Borneman, RD, LD, for successfully completing her 16th New York City Marathon on November 1, 1998. She completed the race in 4 hours and 40 minutes, not bad for also having ran the Chicago marathon only three weeks earlier! Cheyrle took up marathon running in 1983 and has run a total of 18 marathons. She notes, ‘I’m not fast but marathons are good goals to help me stay fit, something I want to do considering my family’s history of heart disease and cardiac bypass surgery. My time has remained steady in all 18 marathons, not a bad record for someone who turned 50 this year."

Running seems to be in this family’s genes. Cheyrle’s daughter Amy ran a qualifying time of 3:32 for the next Boston marathon to be held this April. This mother-daughter team has raised $4000 for Team Leukemia in 1997 and has made contributions to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center through marathon fundraising.

Cheyrle, who is an excellent example of cardiac risk reduction, practices what she preaches. As a registered and licensed dietitian, she now specializes in cardiac and weight reduction counseling. She job shares the position of Dietitian with Jennie Schmidt, RD. She has hospital office hours on Mondays and Fridays, but you may see her training any day throughout Kent County.
