Millennium Baby Welcomed
at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital

Caroline Moseley MacLeod was born at 8:06 a.m. on January 1, becoming Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital’s first baby to be born in the millennium, century and new year. She entered the world seven days early according to her parents, Daniel and Melissa MacLeod of Chestertown. Big brother Andrew, who will turn two in March, rounds out the MacLeod family.

Baby Caroline’s father had special news to share with his seventh and eight grade math students at Galena Middle School as school reconvened on Monday. Melissa MacLeod is also trained as a teacher, but is now enjoying being a full time mother to Drew and Caroline.

If the early arrival was a surprise for the parents, so was the shower of gifts donated by area merchants for the millennium baby. Six banks each gave the first baby a $50 savings bond: Centerville National Bank of Maryland, Chesapeake Bank and Trust Company, Chestertown Bank, Crestar Bank, Farmers Bank of Maryland and Peoples Bank of Kent County.

Caroline also received a beautiful assortment of Year 2000 baby items from Ellen Walmsley, owner of Pride & Joy, Chestertown, along with a keepsake sterling silver baby spoon from Forney’s Jewelers in Chestertown. The Gamma Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a local community service organization, provided her with a bassinet and Chester River Massage Associates pampered Mom with future one-hour massage. McKesson General Medical donated a case of Huggie diapers to keep baby comfortable her first few weeks and Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital gave a year 2000 bib to welcome its first baby of the millennium.

The paternal grandparents are David and Joan MacLeod, of Salisbury and maternal grandparents are William and Patricia Vaughn of Ponte Vedra, Florida.
