Hospice Tree of Lights to be Illuminated December 3
Chester River Home Care & Hospice’s annual Tree of Lights ceremony, now in its 22nd year, will be held on Thursday, December 3, at Chester River Hospital Center. This event provides an opportunity for family and friends to honor loved ones during the holiday season while supporting hospice services in Kent County and Queen Anne’s County.
Tribute lights may be purchased in honor of or in memory of a loved one for $10 each. The names of those honored or memorialized will appear on scrolls, which will be displayed in a custom-built wood case adjacent to a special Christmas tree in the courtyard, located at the main entrance of Chester River Hospital Center. The scrolls of names will be updated weekly through December 31.
The annual tradition was introduced by the Kent Hospice Foundation in 1988. The event begins at 5:30 pm. Following the tree lighting, Lester Barrett, Jr. will lead the attendees in caroling. Refreshments will be served in the Hospital’s main lobby.
Proceeds from this annual event help fund the bereavement and outreach care services provided by the Chester River Home Care & Hospice staff to patients and their family members who desire a helping hand to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs near the end of a person’s life.
Services include pain and symptom management; emotional and psychological support; medical supplies and equipment; companionship; respite for caregivers; grief support; and 24-hour on-call nursing support.
Chester River Home Care & Hospice is a member of the Chester River Health System, whose members provide a complete continuum of healthcare services for people who live in or visit Kent County, Queen Anne’s County and southern Cecil County. The Chester River Health System is part of the University of Maryland Medical System, and includes Chester River Hospital Center; Chester River Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center; and the Chester River Health Foundation.
